Gay Friendly Accommodation

What it means to be 'Gay Friendly'

Tourism Tasmania, in consultation with representatives of the GLBTI community, has promoted guidelines for businesses wishing to deliver gay friendly services.
As an industry we aspire to meet the following standards in delivering 'gay friendly' visitor experiences:
  • Treating all people in the same professional, non-discriminatory manner.
  • Accepting of, and comfortable dealing with, gay and lesbian clients without embarrassment to either party.
  • Generally speaking, traditional clientele would be accepting of gay and lesbian guests.
  • This is an attempt to ensure that operators can provide a safe and comfortable environment for their gay and lesbian clients.  Staff should have the training and skills to manage the dynamics of a mixed group and any conflicting values that may arise.
  • Have knowledge of gay and lesbian venues, support and health services in the local area/ Tasmania generally, or reference to where this information can be obtained. Current information is available in the 'Listings' section of the Discover Tasmania Gay & Lesbian Visitor's Guide.
  • All staff understands management's philosophy and conduct business in the same "gay friendly" manner.
  • Ideally have some gay and lesbian tourism literature available on the premises, such as the Discover Tasmania Gay & Lesbian Visitor's Guide.
In listings below and throughout the site, look for the GALTA rainbow Tasmania 'mapicon' for Gay Friendly accommodation (and activities) in Tasmania.
