Tenth Island is a significant Australian fur seal breeding colony, accessible by boat from nearby holiday villages and the Tamar River. Its accessibility and the presence of a seal breeding colony make it a popular site for travellers, with at least two registered charter boats in operation.
If you approach within 100 metres (about 100 yards) of the island between November and February, it is likely that the seals will be driven into the water, which can cause pups to be killed by stampeding adults. Under its management plan, permits are required for visits to the island and tourist operators are required to abide by the Government's seal-watching guidelines.
