Swallows Nest Hop Kiln Guest House is located in Plenty in the Derwent Valley.

This century-old hop kiln nestles on the banks of the Derwent River, and has been luxury furnished and decorated. Swallows Nest is a tranquil place where you can fish for trout or maybe spot a platypus, or just enjoy the absolute pleasure of strolling through the seven acres of rolling lawns, complimented by fruit trees, white gums, lavender, rosemary and many other native shrubs. Swallows Nest is also dog friendly – contact operator for more information. Adorning the walls are many examples of watercolour, pastel and oil paintings with tuition available for the artistically inclined.

Swallow Nest is just 40 minutes from Hobart and 15 minutes from the centre of New Norfolk on the Rivers Run Route. There is also parking available onsite. Call in at the trout hatchery of Salmon Ponds before visiting Bushy Park hop fields. Here you will see many examples of historic multi-storied hop kilns, carefully positioned around a beautiful lake, home too many native water birds and wildlife.

On the Rivers Run Route, visit the spectacular Russell Falls and Mt. Field en-route to Lake Pedder before driving on to the west coast.
