Designer Glen Jacobs says of this exciting park, 'the place is set to become a major mountain biking destination. There is nothing else like it in Australia.' A world-acclaimed designer, Jacobs has designed world championship courses as well as the Sydney Olympic course. Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park is just 15-minutes' outside of Hobart, plays host to the Australian Nationals, and offers everything from rocky and technical Down Hill trails to an exciting Dirt Jump area.
Mount Wellington
Take a short drive or pedal out of Hobart's city streets to find nearby mountain bike trails. The Pipeline Track is an easy trail that begins near the Ferntree Shop and is well suited for families. The North-South Track starts at Shoobridge Bend on the Pinnacle Road and offers a more challenging ride for experienced riders and the option of tackling a few jumps for those who are game!

Other popular mountain bike destinations
In southern Tasmania, other key mountain biking trails include Ringwood Trail into New Norfolk and trails in Mornington on Hobart's Eastern Shore. In the north west of Tasmania, you can find some excellent tracks near Bakers Beach and just outside of Launceston, challenge yourself with a mountain bike climb in Ben Lomond National Park.
Some excellent bicycle touring opportunities are available from Hobart, Tasmania’s harbour capital. Spend time exploring the heritage precinct of Battery Point, or head out of the city 26 kilometres (16 miles) to historic Richmond. You may also wish to explore the Tasman Peninsula, cycling to Port Arthur Historic Site, about 102 kilometres (64 miles) south of Hobart.
It is suggested that if you intend to cycle a full loop of Tasmania, it is best to travel in an anti-clockwise direction to make the most of the prevailing westerly winds on your cycle home if you plan to start in Hobart. Of course, it is possible to take the Spirit of Tasmania ferry from Melbourne and start your tour in Devonport, or in the northern city of Launceston.

The Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park is just a short 15-minute drive from the centre of Hobart, southern Tasmania. Follow directions from the Brooker Highway.

Ben Lomond National Park is located 50 kilometres south-east of Launceston and Bakers Beach is approximately 25 kilometres east of Devonport in Tasmania's north west.
