"We visited in late February when strawberries, raspberries, apples and nashi pears were in season, the first time we'd ever picked our own fruit! They don't use pestisides so the fruit was safe to sample directly from the plant. I thought it was amazing how much sweeter the strawberries were compared to the watery things we get from the supermarkets (on the rare chance we can get them at home). Both the kids got a punnet for themselves and had a wonderful time picking the fruit.

We then had a delicious lunch at the Cafe ... The staff were really friendly and helpful, heating up bubs bottle for us, and the chef came and had a chat with us, recommended a few good tourist spots on the way down to Port Arthur (Tarrana Devil Park, the Chocolate factory, the Blowhole), and  we got a trove of souvenirs from the farm shop.”

Tasmania's cool climate gives extra flavour to its berry fruits and cherries, which are the specialty of Sorell Fruit Farm. The range of berries is astounding - strawberries, raspberries, tayberries, boysenberries, loganberries, silvanberries, blackcurrants. From November to May at least a couple of berries are in season, ready for the whole family  to pick their own.

December and January are the time for picking super-sized sweet cherries.   But at different times during the warmer months you can pick apricots, nectarines, peaches, apples, pears, nashi, broad beans and sweet corn. All the fruits and vegetables can be picked at ground level.

Enjoy a free self-guided tour of the diverse farm and then stop at the cafe for a Devonshire tea, gourmet lunch or berry ice cream. To take home, there is a marvelous range of the farm's award winning liqueurs and fruit wines, jams, honeys, vinaigrettes and pickles - including pickled cherries.

    Opening Hours:
October, and March to May: 10.00am to 4.00pm
