Bruny Island Cruises provide wilderness cruises along Bruny Island's rugged coast, southern Tasmania. Winner of Tasmania’s Best Tourist Attraction 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 this multi-award winning experience has been published by Travel + Leisure as one of the 100 Greatest Trips of the World in 2008. The cruise was also winner of the Australian Tourism Award for Ecotourism 2009.
Bruny Island is a small island accessible by vehicular ferry at Kettering, 35 minutes drive south of Hobart. Passengers can drive themselves to Bruny Island for the three hour cruise, join the tour from Kettering or take a full day tour from Hobart including meals and transfers.
The cruise departs from Adventure Bay, Bruny Island and travels 50 kilometres along the coastline to the Friars and back. You'll drift up close to the awesome 'Breathing Rock', enter deep sea caves, pass through the narrow gap between soaring cliffs and 'The Monument' and feel the power of nature at the point where the Tasman Sea meets the mighty Southern Ocean. Albatross, dolphins, seals and even migrating whales are just a few of the abundant wildlife calling the coastline of Bruny Island home.
The custom built yellow boats are ideal for viewing the spectacular coastline and wildlife of Bruny Island. Covered open-air tiered seating means an excellent all-round view and connection with the environment. These boats are safe, comfortable and gentle on the environment due to their fuel efficiency, low emission and quiet operation.
The business owner, Robert Pennicott is passionate about sustainable operation and donates 25% of his profits towards important local, national and international conservation, community fundraising and humanitarian projects. His most recent achievement was a circumnavigation of Australia in a 5.4m dinghy, called Follow The Yellow Boat Road.com, which raised over $280,000 for conservation and to help Rotary eradicate Polio from the world.
As part of Pennicott Wilderness Journeys, Bruny Island Cruises is 100% carbon offset, Ecotourism Australia accredited and a Green Globe Earthcheck Assessed operator achieving well in excess of best practice results.
