West Coast Yacht Charters (Tour)

This tour takes you on a relaxing three hour trip on Macquarie Harbour aboard "Stormbreaker". You will arrive at a perfect spot on the Harbour where there is no sign of human habitation as far as the eye can see. Lunch is a scrumptuous meal of west coast crayfish (lobster), or smoked salmon and cold meats with salad, then dessert with a complimentary wine, beer or juice.

We cater for children, and all special dietary requirements.

Your Skipper/Owner of the business can tell you the fascinating history of this precious part of the world. It is wonderful to glide through these waters with the wind in the sails.

We now have kayaks and ‘sit ons’ on board, so you can enjoy a paddle in the proximity of the yacht.

You can also combine this with a fishing experience - using a hand line or rod to fish from the yacht for a variety of local fish including cod, ling and salmon.

All use of the fishing gear and kayaks is included.

You are welcome to have a go at the helm, climb the rigging, or just sit and relax and wait for the fish to bite!

We are the only commercial yacht with the Government licence to go 15km past Heritage Landing, where the large cruise boats go. This tour takes you right up the famous Gordon River to Sir John Falls where we navigate the River to collect a group of intrepid rafters who have paddled one of the world's last wild rivers - the mighty Franklin.

You will cruise Macquarie Harbour and enter the Gordon River, which flows through the heart of the World Heritage Area. You can enjoy the excitement of navigating the river all the way to the Falls. Once there, or in the morning, you can fish or kayak in the vacinity of the yacht.

"Stormbreaker" has a large heated saloon below deck, two bathrooms with hot showers, toilets and hand basins, as well as a great space on deck where you can talk with the skipper, do some helming, climb the rigging, or just sit back and admire the scenery.

All meals and accommodation, kayaks and fishing gear are provided.

After boarding our 20 metre (65 foot) steel yacht "Stormbreaker" at 2pm, we depart the Strahan Wharf to cruise Macquarie Harbour. Following afternoon tea, you arrive at the former penal settlement of Sarah Island where you can explore the convict ruins and hear tales of hardship and survival.

Late afternoon we cruise a short distance to the entrance of the magnificent Gordon River, to our overnight destination of Heritage Landing.

Here you’re in the World Heritage Area where you’ll see 2000 year old Huon Pines and ancient temperate rainforest species. You may also see glow-worms after dark. After dinner relax on deck with a coffee, or gaze at the stars reflected on the glassy Gordon River.

If you rise early next morning, the river offers you your best chance to capture its endlessly fascinating reflections on film, chase an elusive trout, and enjoy kayaking while the mist is still rising.

We depart around 8.30, and breakfast is served as we cruise downstream to complete a memorable sailing adventure among the majestic surrounding mountains of Macquarie Harbour, arriving in Strahan around 1pm.
