Since the 1870s unusual occurrences and sightings of apparitions have been documented at Port Arthur. Judges, Reverends, Visitors and Staff have all had experiences. Since the historic Ghost Tours were introduced on a regular basis in 1983, hundreds of experiences have been documented in Port Arthur's Unusual Occurrence registry.

…amazing... wonderful tour guides … Thank you for the experience.
The stories on the ghost tour, guided tours and plays made the experience come alive for us. Thank you!
Just had a Ghost Tour last night …, it was extremely entertaining and (the guide) just added to the whole atmosphere with stories and sudden moments of surprise.
I’d recommend anyone who ever travels round Australia and gets down to Tasmania to go and visit the place it is an awesome attraction with a lot of interesting history and a great atmosphere.
This tour is totally WINNING!!!!
Loved this tour...
Port Arthur is absolutely a must-see if you're visiting Tasmania. It is such an interesting site with so many stories to tell. My advice is to allow plenty of time because there is so much to look at here - I'd say at least one full day minimum. We spent 1.5 days and there were still things we didn't have time for. If you can, book accommodation in the area and take an evening ghost tour.
Port Arthur Ghost Tour One of Australia’s most haunted sites Join a lantern-lit walking tour to experience the Port Arthur Historic Site by night. Port Arthur can seem a very different place after sunset, full of mystery and intrigue.
Unlike many other ghost tours around the world, visitors on the Port Arthur Ghost Tours have exclusive access to our World Heritage listed Site, so the atmosphere won't be shattered by crowds or traffic.
Are there ghosts? Truth or myth?
Either way, the silence and soft glow of the lantern light can sometimes make those long gone seem very close at hand. Some stories last more than a lifetime Rich storytelling and pathways through darkened ruins and heritage buildings reveal bizarre occurrences during Port Arthur’s history, baffling and alarming convicts, free settlers, soldiers and today’s visitors alike.
Their stories will resonate in your mind long after the lantern dims at the end of the night.
The original and still the best
After sharing the hidden side of the convict settlement for more than 20 years, Port Arthur remains Australia’s “must do” ghost tour experience. Suitability The 90-minute tour covers a distance of two kilometres, 60 per cent of which is wheelchair accessible. The tours depart every evening except Christmas night, are not cancelled for rain (for safety reasons, umbrellas are not permitted) and are not suitable for young children. Bring along a warm jacket, comfortable walking shoes—and steady nerves.
