Mountain Bike Australia in conjunction with Cycling Australia has announced that Australia will host the 2013 Oceania Championships in Glenorchy, Tasmania over the Easter long weekend. Riders will have a chance to compete against the best of the best within the Oceania Cycling confederation, which is made up of Australia, New Zealand, Timor, Fiji, Guam and Indonesia. Australia and New Zealand typically shine in what is known to be a "trans-Tasman showdown".

The Oceania Championships will feature disciplines in Cross Country, Cross Country Eliminator, Point to Point, and Downhill. The format is sure to see an exciting range of Mountain Biking for competitors and spectators alike.

    Course descriptions:

    Cross Country Eliminator

Based in Tolosa Park the Glenorchy XCE will be a 1km (approx.) course through a variety of parkland terrain. This short and sharp course will take riders around the event village, undoubtedly lined with a cheering crowd.

    Cross Country

Expect a fresh take on an old favourite, with a new course with a mix of fast flowing single track, steep climbs and slow-speed technical terrain. This course will suit those will skill, power and fitness. This year’s 5km (approx.) course will be based out of the picturesque Tolosa Park, providing a large event village in the lush grassland of the park area.

    Downhill

The Glenorchy downhill course needs no introduction. Five years of National Series Rounds and widely regarded as one of Australia’s best, expect a course that is ‘better again’ for this year’s round. Expect steeper terrain, more jumps and an improved lower course section.
