Meet the author: Isobelle Carmody talks to young readers
Prepare to be inspired by an author who has mastered the fantasy genre. Isobelle Carmody is the creator of richly imagined worlds, fast-paced plots, vivid settings and much loved characters. Young readers and writers take note: she began Obernewtyn at the age of 14 and hasn’t looked back. In this session Isobelle will talk and read from her work. Bring your questions and your books for signing.
Part 1:
Finding Serendipity
Guest Writers: Danielle Wood and Heather Rose
Join Danielle Wood and Heather Rose as they give you a glimpse into their exciting new adventure – a novel for young readers published by Allen & Unwin this year. Danielle and Heather will talk about the challenges and advantages of creating a new character together, and of two creative minds working on one story. This session is for young readers and writers, adults who love to revisit their childhood, and who may be interested in writing for children.
Part 2: Strong characters in real and fantastical landscapes – a conversation
Guest Writers: Isobelle Carmody, Lian Tanner and Kathryn Lomer
What are the qualities that make for memorable characters and what make characters relevant to Now. In this session authors discuss their creations who have captivated readers and who sometimes travel with them for years to come. Just how far can we push the bounds of believability in fantasy characters? Are most characters composites of real people? Do writers fall for some characters and detest others? All this and more.
