AS WE FORGIVE 3 MORALITY TALES FOR AN AMORAL AGE
“Tom Holloway is now firmly established as one of the hottest writers in the country”
SAM STRONG, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
GRIFFIN THEATRE COMPANY
BY TOM HOLLOWAY
Among Australian dramatists today, Tasmanian Tom Holloway’s work stands out for its subtlety, integrity and grace.
In As We Forgive, Holloway explores the questions, “When is doing the wrong thing, the right thing?”; “Are there limits to even the most absolute moral
laws?” and “Can evil ever be justified?”.
Three characters at the edges of society try to come to terms with the events in their lives. Each has a story to tell. Each has a reason for why they behaved as they did.
Tom Holloway’s triple portrait is a searing investigation of contemporary morality. Its language is implacable and sparse. Its narrative plumbs the depths of our duty to others, what it means to transgress, and what it means to forgive.
Tom’s script is brought to life by formidable performer Robert Jarman (I Am My Own Wife, 2011), an artist whose work has featured in over one hundred productions and in every Ten Days on the Island festival since its inception, and is directed by Julian Meryick, winner of the 2012 National Helpmann Award for Best Production (with Paul Capsis and Hilary Bell).
This production of As We Forgive has been selected by Robyn Archer to represent Tasmanian theatre in the Canberra Centenary celebrations at the Canberra Theatre Centre in 2013.
