Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption – a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit.
Les Misérables is the musical based on the Victor Hugo novel.
Set in early 19th-Century France, it follows the lives of many characters as they struggle with revolution and redemption. Convict, Jean Valjean (Joshua Skeat), breaks his parole to try to better his life, while Javert (Mark Denny), the unstoppable police Inspector spends his life hunting him.
This is an ensemble show of ‘par excellence’, with a cast that includes revolutionaries, factory workers, prostitutes, and peasants. Les Mis is one the world’s most popular musical.
The tremendous score was composed by Claude-Michel Schönberg with original French lyrics by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel. The world-famous English lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer include such songs as Bring Him Home, I Dreamed a Dream, On My Own and Empty Chairs at Empty Tables
