The Launceston Musical Society is excited to be presenting, for your enjoyment, the Broadway sensation CHICAGO. Set in the prohibition era in Chicago, this red-hot jazz musical will leave you begging for more. Join the scintillating sinners Roxy and Valma as they dance and sing their way, in true vaudevillian style, through "All That Jazz" and "The Cell Block Tango". Be "Razzle Dazzled" by the unmitigated ego of Billy Flynn and look right through "Mr Celophane",Roxy's downtrodden and misguided husband.
Drawing on some of Launceston’s most accomplished performers and vocal talents CHICAGO will delight and entertain you.
CHICAGO has won 6 Tony Awards, 2 Olivier Awards and a Grammy. It is the second longest running Broadway show in history.
The original play, was written by Maurine Dallas Watkins who was a criminal reporter in the United States. Every character is loosely based on real celebrities and criminals of the day.
The Choreography is based on the distinctive style of Bob Fosse who, as well as co-writing the musical, also choreographer the original production.
