Comes to Life ...foregrounds the strength and diversity of an art scene today that is generated by Tasmania’s younger professional artists. It includes a variety of media, ranging across painting and photography, through to interactive sound and video works. The exhibition surveys how these contemporary artists continue to use human subjectivity to explore a diversity of ideas in contemporary life.

Many of the artists in this show are central to, or are often present within, their works. The artists respond to individual experiences, emotions and the situations they construct in order to generate the artworks. Various strategies, processes and technologies have often required these artists to become part of the actual work. Some works use traditional forms such as narrative to communicate ideas, while others respond to international trends in contemporary culture. The exhibition explores 'life' through an engagement of consciousness and exploration of physical existence.

…come to life… also signals a joint aim of Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery and Contemporary Art Spaces Tasmania to deliver a biennial contemporary art project that gives focus to recent practice by emerging and early career Tasmanian artists.

...come to life... is a co-curated show between QVMAG and CAST.

Contemporary Arts Spaces Tasmania (CAST) is supported by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its principal arts funding body, and by the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy, an initiative of the Australian, State and Territory Governments, and is assisted through Arts Tasmania by the Minister for the Arts.
