Australian food guru Stephanie Alexander and everyone’s favourite gardener Peter Cundall will help celebrate Harvest Launceston Community Farmers’ Market first birthday.
To celebrate the first year of Launceston’s farmers’ market, Harvest has teamed up with Festivale to host a range of fantastic family-friendly events on Saturday February 9th.
ABC local radio will be onsite at the market with a live broadcast from 8.30am–11.30am and will feature Peter Cundall’s popular gardening talk back show.
The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation (SAKGF) will be setting up temporary garden beds, complete with herbs and vegetables. The SAKGF team will run activities for kids all morning from 8.30am–12.30pm including pot-plant decorating, bean planting and identifying herbs and vegetables.
Allan’s Garden Centre and NRM North have sponsored the garden beds and activities run by the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation (SAKGF) and all three garden beds will be auctioned off to raise money for fire devastated Dunalley Primary School.
The garden beds auction is taking place on the Harvest Launceston Facebook page and will continue until 12pm on Friday 8th February. It’s a fabulous way to support the Dunalley Primary School and win an instant herb and vegetable garden for your home.
Shawn Sheather, resident chef from the Australian Good Food Guide will conduct a free cooking master class. Using ingredients straight from the market he will create a stunning three-course meal. Shawn describes his style as modern Australian with indigenous characteristics and has worked in a range of restaurants from Brisbane’s Jellyfish to Fresh Pallet in the Blue Mountains. Be prepared to watch some everyday ingredients being transformed into delicious, seasonal dishes.
Join Stephanie Alexander, much-loved restaurateur and author, and Jane Adams from the Australian Farmers Market Association when they cut the birthday cake at 11.30am.
