Bruny Island, Tasmania is rich in cultural, environmental and artistic heritage. The Nayri Niara (good spirit) Festival explores and promotes the cultural diversity, innovation and creativity of this stunning remote island and its people.
The Nayri Niara Festival brings together people in celebration of this unique landscape in a supported sharing and caring atmosphere which welcomes all people, local, national and international. It is a powerful opportunity for Indigenous people to share their knowledge and ceremony honouring ancient traditions and modern innovation.
This three day gathering is held in bushland setting overlooking the tranquil Great Bay. A family event which showcase an amazing array of musicians, dancers, healers and teachers from across the globe to help celebrate this exceptional Country, the 2013 the Nayri Niara good spirit Festival will continue to create good music, good food, good yarns and good vibes.
Key Artists: Xavier Rudd, Emma Donovan & Deline Briscoe (Black Arm Band) OKA, Bobby Alu PLUS Dewayne Everettsmith and loads of exciting local talent.
Our Speakers Forum will focus on Re-Claiming the Sacred Self Special guests Bob Randal (Elder from Uluru) will share his intimate knowledge of Kanyini AND JIM MEDICINE TREE (USA Cherokee), poet, activist, writer and local Elder JIM EVERETT, Tav Sparks (USA) healing potentials of extended states of consciousness. Plus Miriam Rose Ungunmerr-Bauman sharing Dadarri – ‘quiet still awareness’ (Daley River, NT).
The 2013 intention for our Concluding Ceremony is to heal the time of Great Death (whaling began in Tas) and to celebrate the reclaiming of the waters by the Whales and all sentient beings.
Strengthening personal relationships and encouraging cohesion between diverse communities through the expression of arts is the heart beat of this Gathering. Important elements of the Gathering are:
•Honour past and present Aboriginal custodians and create opportunities for them to share and care;
•Establish and continue to build upon relationships between divers communities;
•Promote emotional, spiritual and physical healing through exposure to local, national and international health and well-being initiatives;
•Increase a greater participation in community arts whilst providing skill development opportunities for existing and emerging artists;
•Encourage local and ethical economic growth through promoting local business and artists;
•Promoting and celebrating Bruny Island and it’s people as an icon of innovation and creativity.
