Weather permitting the QVMAG will be coordinating a special safe viewing session of a partial solar eclipse at the Museum, Inveresk.
The free session will be open to all and viewings will take place near the southern end of the car park area in front of the QVMAG Museum buildings.
It’s very important never to look directly at the Sun’s disc, whether or not an eclipse is taking place.
Partial solar eclipses are seen from Tasmania – or from any other particular location on Earth – once every few years, on average. However, from any specific location, total solar eclipses are quite rare, with the next one to be seen from Tasmania not occurring until
June, 2131.
The next eclipses of any kind to be visible from Tasmania will be a very minor partial lunar eclipse on the morning of 26 April 2013, and a partial solar eclipse 15 days later.
