Since coming to prominence at the inaugural Sydney International Piano Competition in 1977, the Londonborn, but Australian-raised Piers Lane has had a flourishing international career, which has seen him perform as both recitalist and concerto soloist in more than forty countries.

Moving easily from performer to teacher and from scholar to radio broadcaster, Lane combines an active touring and recording career with teaching responsibilities at the Royal Academy of Music, writing and presenting for BBC radio, and since 2007, leading the Australian Festival of Chamber Music in Townsville.

Written over a twenty-year period, Chopin’s 21 Nocturnes were never intended to be played as one collection, but as cornerstones of the piano repertoire they have become some of the most popular and best-loved pieces of music of all time.

Lane first performed the complete Nocturnes in London in 2010, cementing his reputation as a Chopin specialist and creating something of a signature program that he has since repeated in Europe, North America, and back home in Australia. In 2013 he extends the privilege of sharing this monumental but beautifully intimate program to Hobart audiences.
