Men, women, marriage, power, controversy.

Directed by Julie Waddington

Regarded as one of Shakespeare’s most controversial and difficult plays for contemporary retelling, The Taming of the Shrew is as comic and darkly seductive, as it is brutal and torturous. Within a repressive society, the divisive Petruchio and tempestuous Kate rage against each other.

The Playhouse has seen hundreds of fine productions and has been the training ground for dozens of actors, directors and playwrights who have gone on to national and international acclaim, and many hundreds more who have been able to provide for the Citizens of Hobart a regular programme of live theatre for all these years.
