The Songs of the Auvergne are as beautiful as the French countryside from which they come and are among the loveliest folksongs ever arranged for soprano and orchestra. Bizet’s L’Arlésienne takes its inspiration from a different region of France – the southern city of Arles – while Poulenc’s witty Sinfonietta offers the sophistication of Paris pure and simple.
