Urban Horizons is a two-sided exhibition, showing two different worlds in one window. The Lightbox becomes a large ‘artbox’ with an Illustrative installation using cardboard, print college, paint and ink.
One side of the window shows an urban setting of a city, where dark skyscrapers take over the skyline of a mountain. Hidden in the midst of the concrete, subtle scenes are taking place and estranging details are to be found. This is only seen when taking a closer look; a girl is walking on the street loosing her bright red umbrella like a balloon. Rain is pouring, but instead of from the clouds, a megaphone is the source of the raindrops.
The other side, shows the serene silence behind the mountain. But when you look closer here you will also find confusing details like houses growing in trees like fruit.
All of this is part of a story, a story perceived differently to each viewer. The installation is about creating a feeling, surroundings, and a small and unexpected scene next to the busy everyday life at Salamanca.
This installation is created with cardboard by Malou Zuidema.
