An exhibition of new paintings by Amy Jackett.
The sky has been a source of artistic inspiration for centuries. As a powerful conveyor of mood, the sky has been rendered with passion and astute observation. John Constable famously turned to the sky above Hampstead Heath for many cloud studies (1821-22). Constable observed and painted subtle changes in light and colour. He recorded the time of day and atmospheric conditions. Like Constable, many artists who have painted the sky have done so from direct observation. In contrast, Writing the Sky is derived from imagery conjured through words. Rather than being from direct observation or my own imagination, it re-imagines written imagery as it translates words to paint.
